What is trench warfare?Trench warfare is a type of warfare categorized by the founding of defensive emplacements lodged in trenches, with both sides occupying trenches for the purpose of holding a defensive position. This type of warfare becomes a very slow war of attrition, with both sides picking away at each other in an attempt to gain an advantage. It is infamously brutal and horrific, and is perhaps most closely associated with the First World War, in which the infamous trenches in France were occupied from 1914 to 1918.

what are the positives to trench warfare? There weren't many positives of trench warfare in the eyes of the soldiers but if there was going to be any positives it would be of that there was in some aspects… a stand still. No one was gaining an advantage or a disadvantage. So I guess the positives were that it was a stalemate giving the politician’s time to think of new strategies or peace. Also the safety from machine gun bullets.

What are the negatives to trench warfare?Unlike the positives there were many negatives to trench warfare. Firstly, there was the constant worry about enemies. There were also the poison gasses and improved air technology (planes) and obviously the weaponry. Also the trenches were filled with rats and diseases which would soon lead to trench foot or more severe diseases. There was also the cold, filth and the constant threat of enemy insurgents. Many other worries in being in the trenches were; Mustard gas, Napalm, Mortar strikes and any other weapon or bomb.
